Twenty-four competitors entered to the Event and five fiesta pilots participated too. We made seven flights and twenty-five tasks. I had to cancel one flight only because the windy weather. All task sheets, measuring report sheets results and other information published on the Electronic Notice Board: http://balloon.hu/kungur2013/.
The contest area is with open fields, fields under crops and wooded, rivers, lakes, foothills areas. The road network is not the best and I had to reconsider the bad road definition but the local drivers help us so solve these problems. The organiser provided nice excursions for the participants too: visiting the Ice Cave, boat trip, visiting a Monastery, etc.
These teams of the organisers and officials are ready to run category one Event in Kungur too.
You have to come next year. It’s an interesting and great place. Must to see!

The CIA Plenary Meeting, held in Rio de Janeiro on March 22 and 23, has finally decided. The 21st FAI World Hot Air Balloon Championship will be held in San Carlos/Brazil in 2013. This decision came along after long, difficult and tiresome discussions at the Plenary, but to the satisfaction of a majority of the delegates present. Competitors may now confidently start their preparations. The Brazilian organisers confirmed the appointment of Event Director Mathijs Debruijn and Deputy Event Director David Levin. They also announced that a non-sanctioned Pre-Worlds event will be held in San Carlos in July 2013. Detailed information regarding the free transportation of the 70 balloons in 2014 has been promised to become available sometime during the year. I am glad that the this issue has finally been decided, and I wish all those who plan to participate a lot of fun and perfect competitions.
Buoyant regards, JC Weber, president FAI Ballooning Commission

Behind the scenes from Rio (FAI CIA Plenary Meeting):
“The Great politics:
Yesterday evening (22nd March), FAI President John Grubbstrom (not CIA President Jean Claude) at the end of the meeting appealed to all delegates and declared that cancellation of sanction for Brazil will be painful for all of us, because Brazilians will go to international court.
This morning the situation got even worse. FAI President said that if the sanction will be given to Lithuania, he will not sign an organiser agreement with with Lithuania. Organiser agreement is signed by FAI.”
The Event Debriefing of the 1st FAI Junior Hot Air Balloon Championship will start at 17:00. The last task briefing will start 18:30. The Task sheet is ready: calculated rate of approach task and Minimum distance time. Two take-off is permitted.
Rokas Kostiuskevicius was the best pilot after 10 tasks but three tasks results are not published. The championship is still open.
Official rules were approved and published. Now you can find all three sections of the rules. The rules sections I and II published at our site earlier, were edited a bit. Important change related with Section II regarding co-pilot appeared in II.16, therefore co-pilots will not be asked for their sporting licence at check in.
Minor changes in II.3 and II.12 appeared.
